Stop Buying Avocados. Here’s How to Grow an Avocado Tree in A Small Pot At Home
Avocados are loved by people the world over, thanks to their delicious taste and high nutritional value.
These green little fruits are rich in fiber, heart-healthy fats, potassium, as well as vitamins B5, B6, C, and K.
This fruit grows in popularity by day, making its price on the market to increase as well.
Fortunately, you can grow your own small avocado tree at home, and avoid the exorbitant prices charged by grocery stores.
This is how to grow an organic avocado tree from a seed:
- Clean a seed properly, and then identify which of its ends is the bottom and which one is its end. Afterward, stick 4 toothpicks into the seed, at equal distances apart roughly halfway down.
- Next, place your seed in a glass of water. The toothpicks will allow it to soak just an inch in the water. Then place your seed in a warm place, with direct sunlight.
- Wait for 2-6 weeks, until the stem is about 6 inches tall. Then, cut the stem back to 3 inches and wait for it to reach 6 inches again, and for more leaves to grow.
- Find a big pot, with about 10-inches diameter and a hole at the bottom for drainage. Fill the pot with a nutrient-rich soil. Make a hole at the top and place your seed there. Don’t plant the seed too deep; a half of it has to remain above the soil.
- The pot should be kept in a sunny place, and watered often and generously. Keep it moist. but not saturated.
- Over-watering the tree may cause the leaves to become droopy and yellow. In such situation, avoid watering the tree for a couple of days, and ensure you use a lesser amount of water in future.
- The avocado needs regular care and maintenance for it to flourish. You’ll wait for just a few years to start enjoying your delicious and healthy fruits.
